Gen. Powell, which party has a strong history of racism ?
Retired General Colin Powell says “the Republican Party still struggles with a “dark vein of intolerance.” How can you be so ignorant?
Let’s take a trip back in time and compare Democrats and Republicans on the issue of race. Even Wikipedia exposes racist Democrats like George Wallace.
“Democratic dominance had been achieved by disfranchising most blacks and many poor whites in the state for decades which lasted until years after federal civil rights legislation was passed in 1964 and 1965.”
Democrat MSNBC incorrectly identified Wallace as a Republican. Wallace was one of the biggest racists in American history and I’m sure Democrats don’t want to claim him as one of theirs.
“Not one Democrat in Congress voted for the Fifteenth Amendment. Not one voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1875.”
Let’s remember Democrats are responsible for abortion, the killing of 16 million black Americans.
In the many years Democrats controlled state and federal government, all they did, and continue to do, is perpetuate the helplessness in the black community. Instead of giving blacks a hand up they give them a handout.
Even Bill Clinton, “the first black president,” knew those policies were wrong. When he was president, he enacted welfare reform, one of the smartest things a Democrat has ever done. When Obama got into office though, he got rid of that, and blacks once again get money for nothing.
Now let’s see what the Republican Party, whom you refer to as racist, has done all these years.
Abraham Lincoln was a Republican and what is he credited for? Standing up for blacks, more than anyone before him. He issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which freed the slaves. Let me repeat that, Abraham Lincoln, a Republican, freed the slaves.
What other things did Republicans do?
1865
Republican-controlled 38th Congress passes the 13th Amendment abolishing slavery.
1866
With unanimous Republican support and against intense Democrat opposition, Congress passes the 14th Amendment.
1872
First African-American governor, Pinckney Pinchback (R-LA), inaugurated.
1924
Republican-controlled 68th Congress and President Calvin Coolidge grant citizenship to Native Americans.
1928
First Hispanic U.S. Senator, Senator Octaviano Larrazolo (R-NM), sworn in.
1954
Brown v Board of Education strikes down racial segregation in public schools; majority decision written by Chief Justice Earl Warren, former governor (R-CA) and vice presidential nominee.
1957
President Dwight Eisenhower signs the 1957 Civil Rights Act.
1959
First Asian-American U.S. Senator, Hiram Fong (R-HI), is seated.
1964
Senate passes the 1964 Civil Rights Act when the Republican leader, Everett Dirksen (R-IL), defeats Democrat filibuster.
Under Republican leadership, George H.W. Bush, you were the first black person to be the Commander of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States of America. George W. Bush picked you to be the first black Secretary of State followed by Condoleezza Rice, the first black female.
Colin Powell, the only dark vein is the one in your brain blocking memory of the fact that Democrats were the ones stopping the civil rights laws. They are the ones making sure abortion is available to the black community and they’re the ones who perpetuate racism in America.
My question to you is, are you just that ignorant or do you despise Republicans so much that you disingenuously accuse them of being racist?
